From the old days, Japanese tea made from the stems of tea leaves is called "Karigane" in Uji. Karigane's name came from the shape of the stem of tea leaf, which looks like a branch on the sea that wild geese take rest.

When producing Gyokuro or Sencha, all of the stems of tea leaves are removed. Removed stems are collected and used as Karigane tea. Karigane is cheaper than standard Gyokuro or Sencha, but it has great and fresh aroma than standard tea. Stems contain nutrition called theanine a lot, which is a base of tastiness and sweetness. So Karigane have special sweetness and tastiness, that some of our customers say "I only choose Karigane. This is my best.".

Sencha Karigane "Oritaka" Uji Tea is made from stems of highest grade Sencha available in Matsusaka Suishoudo. Marvelous aroma of Karigane and great sweetness of Sencha are combined and making exellent harmony. "Oritaka" have stong sweetness and taste, so Sencha starters that doesn't have advanced skill to prepare Sencha can also make great Sencha from this Karigane.

Also "Oritaka" is great for ice tea. Prepare Sencha normally using hot water and cool it down, or put directly in cold water then you can enjoy ice Uji tea.
